The contest will have two parts: Written and Oral, both of which will be held on the same day.
Written:
After checking in at the contest, spellers will be given a written test. It will be conducted as follows:
- Spellers will be asked to spell 25 words by the pronouncer.
- The pronouncer will say each word and its definition. Spellers will have 60 seconds to spell each word on their answer sheet.
- To proceed onto the ORAL round, the speller needs to spell 15 words or more correctly.
Written Round Format:
Oral:
Following the written test, the oral round will be conducted as follows.
- On a misspell-and-out basis
- The speller will come on to the mike and will be given a word
- The speller must spell that word correctly to move on to the next round
- If a speller misspells the word, they are disqualified and they exit the stage
- The oral contest continues until one speller is left. The final speller must spell a championship word to be the winner.
Oral Round Format:
Finals:
The top 5 spellers from each centre will move on to the FINALS, to be held in (LOCATION) on (DATE).
The Finals will be conducted completely in the oral format as described above. The last remaining speller on the day of the Finals will win the Grand Prize and the title of National Champion.
